THE WEEK AT A GLANCE

  • Markets: The stock markets have been weak around the world over the past few days, while the notion the US Federal Reserve could now pause rate increases, led to a rally in U.S. bonds. For the credit markets the news flow regarding U.S. regional banks was the market mover.
  • United States: Unit labour costs rose by 6.3% in first quarter, reflecting a 3.4% rise in labour compensation and a 2.7% decline in labour productivity.
  • Eurozone: The results of the European Central Bank’s quarterly Bank Lending Survey suggests that credit conditions keep tightening while demand for credit contracted significantly.
